Variations on Ramon Lllull's Ars Combinatoria

Debate

Panel session with Miquel Bassols, Concha Roldán, Perejaume, and Amador Vega on the occasion of the presentation of the book Ramon Llull's Method of Thought and Artistic Practice.

The book Ramon Llull's Method of Thought and Artistic Practice offers an original and impressive presentation of Llull’s work in the areas of philosophy, science, and the arts, thanks to studies by twenty-one experts from different fields who discuss this system of knowledge that, functioning in a network, has fascinated artists, poets, and scientists throughout the centuries. These studies are the end result of a longstanding international research project that began at the CCCB in 2016 with the exhibition “The Thinking Machine: Ramon Llull and the Ars Combinatoria” (curated by Amador Vega), which was followed by expanded versions at the ZKM Karlsruhe (2017) and the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (2018).

In this panel session, drawing on the research contributed to this new volume, the authors will discuss the present-day relevance of Ramon Llull’s thought.

Ramon Llull’s Method of Thought and Artistic Practice, edited by Amador Vega, Peter Weibel, and Siegfried Zielinski, was published by University of Minnesota Press in 2019.
