Hannah Arendt: Thinking in company

Simona Forti, Zeynep Gambetti and Linda Zerilli

Debate

Simona Forti, Zeynep Gambetti and Linda Zerilli, with Matías Sirczuk as moderator, discuss the relevance of Hannah Arendt's thought and the influence it has had on their work.

What are the new forms of contemporary evil? How can we recover the creative capacity of imagination and judgement in a scenario that collapses into precariousness? Almost fifty years after Hannah Arendt's death, her ideas not only help us to make sense of our time, they also create cracks through which we can see the world from new perspectives.

In this session, we will discuss the relevance of the Arendtian questions in giving continuity to the never-ending task of understanding the world and overcoming the strangeness of a present that does not allow itself to be decoded. The openness of Arendt's thought forces us to judge our approaches from a different perspective and allows us to imagine new forms of thought and political organization capable of confronting the challenges of our time.

This event is part of the seminar Conjugating the Present. Words inherited from Hannah Arendt, coorganized with the Seminari de Filosofia i Gènere-ADHUC Centre de Recerca Teoria, Gènere, Sexualitat, the CCCB and with the collaboration of the International Consortium of Critical Theory Programs.
