Freedom of Expression: Polarization and Pluralism in Public Discourse
Seminar
Following the publication of the book Cancelados [Cancelled], by Umut Özkirimi (Paidós, 2023), this seminar addresses the tensions affecting freedom of expression today, from various perspectives.
This seminar, co-organized with Blanquerna – URL and the Barcelona Institute of International Studies, gathers diverse voices and sensitivities to discuss the current state of polarization in public debate and to reflect on concepts such as critique, censorship, and “cancel culture”.
The session features the participation of Umut Özkirimli, a researcher associated with the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs (CIDOB) and professor at the IBEI; Daniel Gamper, professor of moral and political philosophy (UAB); Teresa Marques, professor of philosophy specializing in discourse analysis (UB); and Mariona Lloret, history professor and coordinator of studies in international relations (Blanquerna-URL).
