Data Journalism. Work session (V)
Data and new narratives
Debate
Is journalism in crisis? Or now that the country is experiencing an economic crisis, is this the time to premiere new digital media, which are low-cost but offer great differentiation in terms of how to explain news items and present them? This session features the protagonists of a new journalistic adventure: the digital publication ACUERDO, and they will explain how they work with data and other narrative formats to make news information more attractive and accessible. The workshop is devoted to an in-depth look at the Google Fusion Tables tool for visualising maps.
5.00 to 5.45 p.m.// 'Acuerdo, a medium for data and new narratives' with Idoia Sota and Pedro García
The digital publication Acuerdo is a journalism laboratory situated between Madrid and London. This medium, just recently launched, distils information into a more understandable format: visualisations, animated infographics, texts, videos, docuwebs and videogames, without boundaries, they search for stories, stories that interest them.
6.00 to 8.00 p.m. // Advanced Google Fusion Tables, by Antonio Delgado.
This practical workshop will show us how to personalise maps developed with Google Fusion Tables, as well as their integration into websites or data projects. In order to be able to follow this workshop you will need to have a basic knowledge of HTML, CSS and Javascript.
