Debate
Screening of the documentary All Static and Noise and talk with poet and activist Abduweli Ayup, professors Manel Ollé and Joanne Smith Finley and Linguapax president Mònica Pereña about the struggle of the Uyghur people to maintain their language and culture.
According to UNESCO, 40% of the languages spoken today are at risk of disappearing, which means an essential loss of cultural diversity. Uyghur linguist and activist Abduweli Ayup is one of the main defenders of the Uyghur language of this community from China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, which is now under great threat.
On the occasion of the presentation of the International Linguapax 2023 Award to Abduweli Ayup for his tireless action for decades in favor of the preservation and transmission of the Uyghur language, we will screen the documentary All Static and Noise, which describes the current situation of the Uyghur language and culture and the efforts of this community to maintain it despite the persecution to which they are subjected. Following this, Abduweli Ayup talks with professors Manel Ollé and Joanne Smith Finley in a debate moderated by Mònica Pereña on the at-risk situation of many languages around the world.
Activity organized with Linguapax.
