RAVAL. Cosmopolitan Territory

Itinerary on foot

How can a mixture of uses, cultures and classes be encouraged without excluding anyone? What was once Barcelona’s emptiest sector when the city was still walled, a tapestry of vegetable patches dotted with hospitals and monasteries, is today the most densely populated neighbourhood in the city. In its evolution between these two extremes, the Raval has become a cosmopolitan territory by all its mixtures and contrasts, but it has never managed to free itself from the effects of marginalization.
