Celebration of a generation of cinema directors

«One hundred and sixty portraits, or rather sketches and views of avant-garde, independent and activist cinema directors in the sector between 1955 and 1996. Why Birth of a Nation? Because independent cinema is a nation in itself. We are circumscribed by nations of commercial cinema and the indigenous of the United States or any other country are circumscribed by the Power At Large. We are the invisible but essential nation of cinema. We are cinema.» (Jonas Mekas)

Birth of a Nation, Jonas Mekas, United States, 1997, 80 min, 16 mm
