16th Flamenco Festival of Ciutat Vella

DE PERLAS

With the 16th FLAMENCO CIUTAT VELLA festival, the CCCB becomes a showcase for concerts, screenings, shows for the kids and presentations of new recordings. It features a programme of young talents every evening in the Foyer and a concert with Morente and Tomatito, a first in Catalonia, to celebrate 30 years of the Taller de Músics.

"De Perlas" presents established artists, musicians at the height of the careers and upcoming talents making their first appearances. A common denominator in the mix? They are all "pearls", some more cultured than others, with their own colour, lustre and surface, but each with its own subtlety giving them their authenticity and beauty.

Voice takes the limelight, with La Macanita, Esperanza Fernández, José Miguel Cerro "Chiqui" and Dolores Agujetas drawing us into the mystery and power of cante.

Rafaela Carrasco , Isabel Bayón, Toni el Pelao & La Uchi, and Dorantes' show Piano Abierto, with the special collaboration of Joaquín Grilo and Pastora Galván, are the "Pearls"; all accompanied by their own musicians, they'll be presenting the latest in flamenco dance, with its own space at the festival.

A very special "Pearl" is the privilege of hearing Enrique Morente and Tomatito together for the first time in Catalonia. They are the curtain raisers of the 16th Ciutat Vella Flamenco Festival and the "Emerging Pearls" cycle, which offers two concerts daily in the Foyer of the CCCB.

Events continue with year two of P'ALUCINE, the Ciutat Vella Audiovisual Flamenco Festival. Together with other collectives and venues in the district of Ciutat Vella (Carmelitas and Estudio de Cine), it will be promoting audiovisual creation, with daily screenings of selected flamenco documentaries and video clips. A new feature this year is the "Ártelo tú mismo!" section, which offers professionals and amateurs alike the chance to take part spontaneously, and hosts Loop Festival activities in the Foyer at the CCCB.
