Professor at the Department of Political Science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, member of the Jerusalem Spinoza Institute and member of Yesh Gvul (Israeli peace group campaigning against the occupation).

Director of the Jerusalem Spinoza Institute and lecturer in Political Science at the Hebrew University and the Sapir Academic College. He has been an activist for human rights in Israel since 1982 and he is one of the first refuseniks of the Lebanon war, 1982. He is also chair of Yesh Gvul (‘There is a limit’) – a soldier’s refusal movement. Amongst his recent publications are Who is Afraid of Freedom (of Information)? (Shatil, Jerusalem 1998) and Can Tolerance Prevail? Moral Education in a Diverse World (The Hebrew University Magnes Press, Jerusalem 2005).
